HAppy Chinese New Year to one and all.. May u all have a happy Pig Year 2007..

 

Nowadays, when we talk abt chinese new year, this will 1st come into our mind= Ang Pow(red packets), holidays, food(snaks n so on) and gambling(poker, black jack n mahjong). Some of the ppl forget/dunno wat is the true meaning of Chinese New Year.

Actually, Chinese New Year was to celebrate the chase away of the nian monster. The Nian monster damages the villages and endangers the villagers.. On the new year when Nian is abt to appear, the villagers decided to put on red cloth in front of their house and put on fire crackers(bao zhu) to chase away the Nian monster.. The Nian monster was successfully chase away and it never appear again.. Since then, on every Chinese New Year, ppl hang red cloth to ensure tat Nian wont appear..

Celebrating Chinese New Year also means reunion.. On the night before Chinese New Year, all the family members will gather together to have a reunion dinner..

Long time ago on the Chinese New Year, the elders will give out red packets.. Do you noe wat's in the red packet? The answer is BLESSINGS.. But nowadays, we take red packets juz for the $$..
